How to Quickly Grow Your Social Media Network
Are you struggling to grow your following and your network on social media?
If so, you may be going about it all wrong.
Are you busily reaching out to other social media users on your favorite channels asking them to share your content? Or maybe you have a canned auto-responder for when people follow you that sends them a link to your latest ebook.
You’ve put in so much time and effort, but nothing seems to be working.
If this sounds like you, it’s time to switch up your social media game.
No one wants to be sold to – especially publicly on social media, or even in direct messages. If you really want to make valuable connections on social media, you need to be genuine in your approach.
Here’s an example of poorly done outreach. This same message was sent to the Granite Creative Twitter account twice…within the same hour…by two different users. No thank you!
Don’t go in with a “me, me, me” mindset.
This will turn people off immediately, and they’ll likely either unfollow you or even take the next step to block you completely.
So, when you make contact, don’t include an ask for anything.
In fact, don’t include an ask for anything for quite some time. Focus on getting to know the person and exploring how you can help one another.
This is an important one. You can’t expect other users to just start sharing your content simply because you followed one another.
The next step you’ll want to take is to begin to add value for others by sharing your followers’ content. Make sure you mention them in your posts when you do, as this is the only way they’ll likely know you posted their content.

As you begin to have conversations, you can try adding a link to other users’ content within your blog posts. Then send them a message and let them know you created a post and cited their work.
They’ll likely have seen you mentioning them in posts and sharing the content they create, so at this point, there’s a solid chance they’ll take that next step as well and start sharing your content.
As you begin to grow your following, you’ll want to be sure the content you share is actually adding value to their lives. If you just post a bunch of junk with no connection to your audience, it’ll just sit there collecting dust.
Make sure you really understand who the people in your audience and your following are by knowing what they are interested in, what content resonates with them and what problems they face.
Then share content that adds value by solving problems and helping give them a boost to their own efforts.
